About Gentilly

Located away from the downtown New Orleans area, Gentilly is full of history and culture. Many of the neighborhoods found within this area are found on some of the highest ground in the city including Holy Cross and Gentilly Terrace. These areas used to be rural, but today they have become very popular neighborhoods.

Surrounded by some of the most beautiful landmarks in New Orleans, Gentilly has become a rather popular area. It's found close to Bayou St. John, Lake Pontchartrain and City Park. In addition, Elysian Fields is found within the community and many of the smaller neighborhoods are located near the Mississippi River.

Gentilly Terrace is one of the most popular communities within Gentilly. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes many homes from the early 1900s. Many large oak trees are found throughout giving the neighborhood a park-like setting. Spanish revival bungalows, Mediterranean Revival, California craftsman bungalows and Tudor cottages are all found throughout the community.

 

Shopping, Dining & Entertainment

 

Gentilly offers a number of great amenities throughout with many restaurants along the lake including Deanie's Seafood and Blue Crab. IN addition, many convenience stores and mom-and-pop type places are found throughout.

 

This section of New Orleans is also home to a number of attractions including Old Gentilly Spice Kitchen and St Leo the Great Church. The Hellenic Cultural Center is another great attraction and it's home to the New Orleans Great Festival held during May every year.

 

Lake Pontchartrain is one of the biggest attractions found nearby. The lake features picnic areas, fishing areas, beaches, playgrounds and so much more.

 

Location

 

One of the most appealing things about living in Gentilly is the location. It's found just three miles from the French Quarter and steps away from some of the top places and attractions in New Orleans. Those looking to live near the action, but just on the outskirts will enjoy living within Gentilly.

 

Living in Gentilly

 

With a variety of smaller neighborhoods and a location just a few miles from the French Quarter, Gentilly is the preferred choice for many homebuyers. Real estate in Gentilly tends to be a bit more affordable and it's known as a traditional residential neighborhood and it's located on some of the highest land in the Metro New Orleans area. Living in Gentilly provides easy access to some of the best New Orleans has to offer without being located right in the center of the act
